Oregon is known for its Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, but in Southern Oregon’s Applegate and Rogue Valleys the dry and warm climate allow for a variety of wine grapes to flourish.
Recently Oregon Chardonnay has begun to get the attention of national wine press and it’s starting to see some of the same acclaim that the state’s Pinot Noir has been garnering.
The 2012 Foris Chardonnay is a study in balance. The wine delivers generous aromatics of white flower, ripe pear and almonds, the palate delivers flavors of that same pear, honey and coriander. The barrel fermentation has given the wine a nice mouthfeel and imparted it with a touch of vanilla without sapping the wine’s still vibrant freshness and crisp finish.
Pairing picks: A natural for roasted chicken, crab cakes or grilled trout.
